Videonystagmography (VNG)

Advanced video-based eye-movement testing to evaluate the vestibular system, diagnose balance disorders, and identify inner ear dysfunction.

Videonystagmography (VNG) is a state-of-the-art diagnostic test that evaluates the function of the inner ear and the central motor functions that control eye movement. It is one of the most comprehensive and accurate tools available for assessing balance disorders and dizziness.

During a VNG test, the patient wears specialized goggles equipped with infrared cameras that precisely track and record eye movements. The vestibular system — the inner ear's balance mechanism — is closely linked to eye movement control. By analyzing these movements under various conditions, our specialists can pinpoint whether dizziness or balance problems originate from the inner ear, the brain, or both.

At Inland Empire Brain Experts Corp., VNG testing is performed by our experienced team under the supervision of Dr. Salim. The test is non-invasive, safe, and typically completed within 60–90 minutes. It consists of several components, including oculomotor testing (tracking moving targets), positional testing (measuring responses to head and body position changes), and caloric testing (stimulating each ear individually with warm and cool air to assess inner ear function independently).

VNG is particularly valuable for patients who experience chronic dizziness, vertigo, or unexplained falls, as it provides objective, measurable data that guides accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment planning.
